5-Amino Levulinic Acid (5-ALA): US – FDA and EMA approved

5-ALA is an optical imaging agent used in adults for the visualization of malignant tissue during surgery in high grade gliomas. It selectively accumulates in the malignant tissues and emits red fluorescence when observed under blue light filters.

5-ALA is used as an adjunct for achieving maximal resection in high grade gliomas and is for oral use only.
